Autism Support Services in Cayuga County

When I went to research what ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) support services were available for residents of Cayuga County, New York I was not able to find much. I would advice families to perhaps try surrounding counties, such as Oswego, Onondaga, or Seneca Counties.

C.H.A.N.C.E.S - This is a service that is offered from Seneca Cayuga ARC.  It is for families that have an Autistic child ages 21 yrs old and under. This support group for parents is overseen by a pyschologist, and is to provide ASD children with new skills to increase their education whether at home or in the community. They also offer respite services. For more information about this program please call (315) 612-0100.

Services in Central New York (Onondaga County)

Sometimes it's not easy finding support services when you do not know that they exist or where to find them. I have created this blog with introducing of services, and programs in mind that are for people within the Autism Spectrum. When my wife and I discovered that our son was in the spectrum we didn't really know where to go, and no one helped us. So this directory is to help those who may need services or programs, whether for themselves or a family member that is in the Autism Spectrum.

The first directory list is for CNY (Central New York) region, which includes Syracuse, and the outlying area. There are a couple of different agencies located in CNY that are for or support Autism. By all means this is not a complete list but more or less a go to of a few that may connect you with others in the area.

FEAT of CNYThey assist families of children with Autism by providing resources and support  within the Central New York region.  FEAT stands for "Families for Effective Autism Treatment", they are a not for profit that is administered by parents, and professionals to provide a support system to families that have children in the spectrum.  This group gets together for social events, such as laser tag, holiday events, and other events. They have a calendar of scheduled events that is updated regularly. This is a great way to meet other families that are going through the same thing, and the kids can get to know other children that may have other things in common. They also offer parents only groups such as yoga, and a behaviors class. The main purpose of this organization is to foster hope, and dreams for a bright future. One for kids ages 7-12yrs old, and another for older kids(teens) 13-17yrs old. They meet at various times, and locations that are convenient for participants. The main purpose of this group is to give siblings an outlet to talk about anything that may be frustrating them or any positives or other issues bothering them.
